THE the new super-liner of the
Italian Line, is one of the largest vessels laun-
ched since the War; the spaciousness, the tech-
nical perfection of her construction and machin-

she has a gross tonnage of 51.000 tons. Four
groups of turbine-motors driving her four screws
give her a speed exeeding 27 knots.

The construction of the vessel with her water-
tight compartments guarantees the absolute
safety and regularity of navigation. In the
event of fire, the vessel is fitted with a com-
plete group of fire-extinguishing devices, and a
fire brigade equipped with special appliances.
Twentyfour life-boats, 22 of which are motor-
launches, and 4 furnished with Marconi instal-
lations, constitute the vessels complement, ca-
pable of holding comfortably the maximum of ”
persons on board.















THE HALL

The center of the social life of the Special Class.
A spacious saloon of austere beauty, the Hall
has doors opening onto the verandahs on either
side, and two wrought-iron gates communicating
with the Ladies saloon.

The unusual spaciousness and luxury of the
saloons, and the exceptional comfort of every
room render the Special Class of the “ REX”
the best of its kind.

The service has been perfected with the utmost
care to the smallest detail. Ventilation is abun-
dantly provided; electricity is used unsparingly
for lighting, signalling, for passenger and service
elevators. The installation of baths and showers
is in a proportion surpassing all that has gone
before. There is also a series of cabins provided
with private baths.

elevators to B deck, on wich is the Dining Sa-
loon, and to C deck where are the cabins and
Chapel. The after part of the Saloon deck is
given up to the Open-air Swimming Pool and
Lido of the Special Class, with Verandah-Cafè
and Gymnasium. So that there are 4 decks for
the use of the Special Class, with perfect arran-
gement of rooms.

The decorations and furnishing maintain a happy
medium of simple beauty, which does not exclude
richness of materials, designed and carried out
by the architects Ducrot of Palermo and Monti
of Milan.

The luxuriousness, the furnishing, and the mi-
nute care which has been taken with the smal-
lest details of the cabins, offer the most perfect
conditions of comfort to the guests.





THE VESTIBULE OF THE DINING SALOON

An imposing staircase
connects the various
decks on which the

ascends from the Hall
to the vestibule on B
deck, separated from
the Dining Saloon by a
large curved glass door.









DINING SALOON

The Dining saloon can seat 400 persons, and extends
right across the ship, with a long line of windows
looking onto the sea. Beauty, spaciousness, and
airyness together with a richness of decoration and
materials, characterize this saloon.

Richly decora-

red panels, this
room is reser-
ved for private
parties.

THE SMOKING ROOM

Here the Barman comes into his own! A simple
beauty coupled with perfect comfort dominate
this saloon, wich is situated between two
verandahs with communicating doors.

Furnished with

gymnastic ap-
purtenances for
Physical Cultu-
re, it is in direct
communication
with the Lido,
and offersample
space for open-
air exercises.





On C deck, on which are situated all the Spe-
cial Class cabins, is the Entrance Hall with large
doors all round the walls. Here also are placed
all the offices, the shops, the glass showcases,
the entrance to the two wide corridors and the
two elevators of this class.

A delightful room connected to the Hall,
this saloon is reserved for the use of
Ladies only.

and comfort of furnishing.



THE VERANDAH-CAFÉ



This is an open-air café: comfortable
armchairs are grouped round delightful
little tables on the verandah, which
extends onto the sports deck, and where
there is a wide view of the vast horizon.
Here fresh air, light and space abounds.



A CABIN

In the cabins in the Special Class everything is
so arranged as to give the maximum of comfort
to the guests. Light and air prevail throughout.
Above every bed another, equally comfortable,
may be opened up if desired.

THE TOURIST CLASS

This is a class designated for those who wish
to travel with a minimum of expense, and at
the same time with every comfort and luxury
of decorations and furnishing corresponding to
each individual taste.

of coloring, and good taste are paramount in

THE GRAND VERANDAH

Designed with perfect modern lines this verandah has
the aspect of a garden. In the vast curving after wall, a
long line of windows cpen on to the covered promenade.
Glass-cases and boock-shelves are distributed round
the room; and on one side is the large curving
counter of the bar.

THE DINING SALOON



The spacious dining saloon is done in polished
wood, furnished with delightful tables and com-
fortable armchairs, and is beautifully light and
airy by reason of its numerous windows.

It offers every comfort of a first class hotel and
a famous kitchen.



THE PROMENADE DECK

The Promenade Deck of the Tourist Class consists
of two wide forward terraces with panoramic view
embracing the whole horizon and taking in the bows
of the ship.

INFORMATION BUREAU

This is the office where the pas-
sengers can comfortably arrange
everything connected with em-
barking and disembarking and
for their stay on board ship. It
is located in the Entrance Hall
on C Deck.

the wall. The decoration
is inspired by the neoclassic
Italian style; there are
panels of polished inlaid
wood, and a delightful fi-

Along one wall is the bar
counter and adjacent ve-

ENTRANCE HALL

Here are situated all the shops and
offices at the disposal of the passengers,
from the Information Bureau to the
Photographer, from the barber to the
show-cases. lt gives access to the wide
corridors leading to the cabins, the
staircases and to the elevator.
